How to verify documentation before beginning research
Documentation should be verified before it is relied upon. Start with the product itself, then find the report that matches its lot.
Record the product name, lot number, and any other identifying information on the label. Then locate the corresponding analytical documentation in the COA database or on the applicable product page, and work through the verification process below.

- 02Match the lot numberConfirm that the lot or sample reference on the documentation matches the lot on the physical product.
- 03Check the laboratoryIdentify who performed the analysis and whether the report clearly identifies the issuing laboratory.

- 05Identify the analytical methodDetermine whether the report uses HPLC, mass spectrometry, or another method, and understand what that method is designed to measure.
- 06Read the full resultDo not rely only on a headline purity percentage. Review the chromatogram, reported findings, sample identification, and supporting information where available.
- 07Separate what was tested from what was notDo not assume that a purity result proves identity, quantity, sterility, stability, or another characteristic unless the documentation specifically supports that conclusion.
- 08Resolve mismatches before proceedingIf the product, lot number, report, or other documentation appears inconsistent, contact support before relying on the material for research.
